About School
SRSV Domra (High School)
The Domra Sri Ramakrishna Sevashrama was established in the then "Jungle-Mahal" area by Khyapa Maharaj (also known as Swami Kripanandaji Maharaj) in 1955-56 inside a mud house while he was still a Brahmachari. Later, he took monastic vows (Sannyasa) and became known as Swami Kripanandaji Maharaj. Before this, he had planned to build a Sevashrama and a school in the name of Ramakrishna in Domra.
He established the primary school that is located to the north of our Sevashrama. At that time, the teachers' salaries were very low. He appealed to Narayan Chowdhury, the then Chairman of the Bardhaman School Board, to bring the school under the board's authority so that the teachers could receive government-standard salaries. Narayan Babu accepted his request, brought the primary school under the School Board, and the teachers began receiving proper salaries. At that time, there were no other primary schools in Domra village, so children received their primary education from this school he founded.
Alongside the school, he established a temple and installed an idol of Sri Sri Thakur Ramakrishna Dev. Bankura's Doctor Maharaj, Kishori Maharaj, and Rammoy Maharaj assisted him in installing this idol. Since the installation, regular worship and offerings (Bhog) to Thakur have continued. Beside Thakur's idol, there are portraits of Sri Sri Ma Sarada and Swami Vivekananda. Strands of Sri Sri Ma Sarada’s hair and her fingernails are preserved here in our Ashrama. A few years ago, a temple for Sri Sri Ma Sarada was built, and an idol of the Holy Mother was installed there.
The Durga Puja at the Sevashrama is very attractive in this region, with events lasting from Sasthi to Trayodashi. Arrangements are made for devotees to sit and have Prasad during these days. Kumari Puja is held on Ashtami, drawing a large gathering of devotees. On Trayodashi, there is a fair, a fireworks display, and the immersion of the idol.
Various other events are held at the Sevashrama, including Kali Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Saraswati Puja, Shivaratri, Snanyatra, Kalpataru Utsav, initiation ceremonies (Diksha) from Belur Math, and other school programs.
Regarding service work: Thousands of people receive Prasad during the birth festivals of Sri Ramakrishna and Sri Ma Sarada. These festivals feature various programs attended by monks from Belur Math. Other service activities include homeopathic treatment, distribution of clothes and blankets, medical camps for the poor, a bookstall, subscriptions to 'Udbodhan' magazine, and assistance for poor and meritorious students. In the future, free tailoring, computer training, beauty parlor training, handicrafts, free coaching, and art training will be provided. In 2023, a hostel was inaugurated.
After 1972, during his absence, Khyapa Maharaj created a registered Trust Body to run the Ashrama. In the trust deed, he specifically emphasized education.
The current Maharaj came after being initiated at Belur Math and Mission and began running the Sevashrama after Nityanandaji Maharaj. At that time, running the Sevashrama became very difficult because he was anxious to go to the Kashi Ashrama, and he eventually left for Kashi. There, after receiving instructions from Thakur Ramakrishna, he returned to this Ashrama. He told the Trust Body he would take responsibility only if certain conditions were met. The Trust Body agreed to his conditions and made him the President of the Trust Body.
Through his efforts, and the initiative of the Trust Body and Managing Committee, this Vidyapith was established in 2005. It was inaugurated by Swami Jyotirmayanandaji Maharaj, the then Secretary of Ramharipur Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama (currently the Secretary of Mayer Bari, Joyrambati Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama). At that time, the student count was only 51; today, there are 1,500+ students. Currently, there are 60+ qualified full-time and part-time teachers. There is 1+ clerk and 6+ non-teaching staff members. All our teachers are trained. Here, the teachers try to provide "man-making education" following the ideals of Swami Vivekananda.
Therefore, with everyone's cooperation and the blessings of Thakur, Ma, and Swamiji, may this become an ideal educational institution.
